Fixing Your Broken Lipstick

Nothing is more irritating than finding out that you have broken your favorite lipstick. Here’s a simple way to save the lipstick, and possibly your sanity.

Steps to follow:

• Find a clean area with a wipe able surface, such as a kitchen or bathroom counter.
• Gently open up your broken lipstick. Set aside, for now, the broken-off section.
• Swivel the tube up as far as it goes.
• Using a match or lighter, create a flame, and gently wave this over the lipstick remaining in the tube.
• Using the tissue to protect your fingers, pick up the broken off section of the lipstick, and attach it to the end you just held over the flame.
• Press the broken-off section firmly yet gently into the melted end.
• Place the lipstick into the refrigerator until set.

• Don’t melt the lipstick too much. You’re just trying to soften it, not liquefy the product.

While we think it’s cool to follow some trends, there are some timeless beauty rules that will get you through every season looking classy, no matter what coast you live on (or plain in between).

Beauty Do #1: Goodbye Helmet Head

No matter the trends, the less done your hair looks, the fresher you’ll look. If you curl your hair, finger comb out the curls ala ’50s pinups. If you opt for a bun on the back of the head, set it at the nape of the neck and let it get messy. If you’re off to a formal event, spend more time on your makeup and accessories and leave hair loose and sexy. Remember: Fancy, hair-sprayed ‘dos are terribly matronly and best left to your grandmother’s set.

Beauty Do #2: Contrasting eyes and mouth

Can’t bother with too many lotions and potions? Consider a tinted moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. If you can’t stand looking pale, brush on a bronzer. At least it doesn’t smell like fake tanners.

Beauty Do #4: Layer fragrances and lipsticks

Sophisticated women know how to properly layer fragrances to create their own signature blends. How to do it? Take your favorite scent and layer a new one atop it. Try out several versions until you find your favorite blend.

According to French Elle, the safest way to blend is via citrus notes, which can be layered with floral, woodsy and amber-y fragrances.

You can do the same with lipsticks. Create your own shades with mattes and glosses. If you don’t like a shade, don’t throw it out, perfect one with other colors in your beauty drawer.

Beauty Do #5: Moisturize after every shower

Skin left un moisturized will itch, and itching (especially done when you’re not paying complete attention) can cause scabs, which in turn can scar. In the shower, make sure you exfoliate your body thoroughly with a body scrub (see my list of the best body scrubs) or washable loofah gloves. General Tips for Lips

Apply cold cream or moisturizer or lip balm before applying lipstick.

*To get natural pink lips apply beet root juice before bed.

*Grind rose petals and apply on lips to get smooth pink lips

*If you have thinner lips use more neutral lip color.

*If you want different shade of lip color mix two or three lipstick colors together and use as new lip color.

*If your face is bumpy, irritate or ruddy, or rash don’t use true red color, till you get normal skin. Red will show more attention on the skin.

*Pale shades makes lip look fuller.

*Apply menthol based lip balm and take an old brush and brush gently on lips ( don’t rub too hard, because lip are very sensitive) to get rid off chapped lips.

Exfoliate Gently

Lips are more sensitive than the rest of your face, so facial scrubs can be too irritating. To remove dead skin, rub a soft, dry toothbrush over your lips once a week. Lip treatments containing salicylic acid can also peel off the dead skin without harm.

Add Moisture

Put on lip balm then blot away the excess before adding lipstick. Avoid flavored lip balms, however, as they may tempt you to lick your lips (causing chapping). Lips that are cracked ot bleeding need treatment with 1 percent hydrocortisone cream and an over the counter antibacterial ointment such as Polysporin.

Stop Lipstick Bleeding

Choose a long-wearing lipstich which is less likely to seep into the lines around your mouth. You can also lock your usual lipstick into place by starting with a layer of foundation followed by color then dusting around your mouth with powder. Don’t do this with sheer lipstick or glosses because base distorts their color.

Make It Last

The obvious solution is to switch to a transfer-resistant formula. But if you don’t like their matte finish, then pencil in the entire lip with a neutral liner so you don’t end up with a ring around your mouth when the lipstick fades. If the pencil is hard to spread, smudge it on your palm first to soften. Then top with any shade of lipsitck.

Fatten Your Lips Up

Dab a dot of gloss on the center of the lower lip to create the illusion of dimension. Gloss reflects light to give the appearance of fullness. Dark colors make thin lips appear to recede, so use sheer pinks and neutral colors. Pale, shiny lipstick is your secret shortcut!

Slim Down

Although many women pay good money for a bigger pout, plus-size lips can overpower the rest of the face. A dark, shiny color on extra large lips is going to look like all lip which usually makes your eyes look tiny. Instead, play down puffy lips by using nude and matte formulas.

Add Shimmer

If dark red or burgundy feels vampish for you, top it with a dab of iridescent gloss to lighten it up and make it feel fresher. For lips that are pearly, use a light hand and concentrate shimmer in the center of your lips – rather than all the way to the corners of your mouth.

Determine if you are cool-toned or warm-toned.

Those considered to be cool-toned usually have brown or ash blond hair and blue or dark eyes, their skin have red undertones, tending to the pink. The warm-toned people have blond hair, green or hazel eyes and their skin has yellow undertone.

For those with warm skin tone warmer shades will look best like caramel, cappuccino, browns with hints of gold and bronze. Pinky, red, beiges will look best on cool-toned skins.

One for the day and one for the evening. During the day wear a light shade and for the evening apply one with saturated shade like reds, bronzes, browns and corals. When wearing a strong lipstick colors, keep cheeks and eyes neutral, choose pale pinks, beige, browns and plums.
